Biography

Graduated in piano, composition and conducting at the Milan Conservatoire, Maurizio studied with well known musicians as Antonio Ballista, Bruno Canino, Franco Donatoni and Azio Corghi.  He graduated cum laude in Philosophy at the Università Statale in Milan. Musician driven by several interests, he has played in first rank theatres, such as La Scala, Teatro Lirico and Sala Verdi in Milan, Teatro Regio in Turin, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa,Teatro Olimpico in Rome, Sala Nervi in Vatican City,  Budapest’s House of Parliament, Luzern’s Kongresshaus, Ishibashi Memorial Hall,  Ginza Oshi Hall, Toshi Center Hall in Tokio, Seongnam Art Center and Cheonju Art Center in Seul.

Maurizio plays at important festivals as Rossini Opera Festival (Pesaro), Festival Donizetti (Bergamo), Tokio Spring Festival. He has accompanied singers such as Giuseppe Di Stefano, Alfredo Kraus, Nicola Martinucci, Luciana Serra, Janet Perry, Bruno De Simone, Paolo Bordogna, Christian Senn; he has worked with conductors Alberto Zedda, Giorgio Gaslini and Romano Gandolfi. He also collaborates with pianist and composer Carlo Balzaretti, actor Giorgio Albertazzi and actress Fanny Ardent. Maurizio has recorded vocal and chamber music for Accordi, Classica Viva and Kikko, encompassing French, German and Italian repertoires. 

In 1996 he was awarded the Cd Classic for “Rossini and Haydn Arias” with mezzo soprano Lucia Valentini Terrani. Teacher at the Civica Scuola ‘Claudio Abbado’ in Milan, he is invited as visiting professor in several renowned Asian Universities (Hanyang, Korean National University of Arts in Seul), as well as he sits in the panels of main international competitions.                                                                                                                          Maurizio’s broadcast activity includes frequent collaboration with RadioTre, Rai 1, Casa Ricordi and Hal Leonard-Bmg.  In 2011 he founded Acitko Association (Italia-Korea Cultural Association), which represented Korea in Milan for EXPO 2015 and from 2011 he is part of the management of ‘Maria Malibran’ International Lyric Competition. From 2016 he is Artistic Director of the World Opera Festival in Seul.
